Two Uber France executives who were questioned past year over the service have also been fined for running an illegal business and deceptive commercial practice.
Unlike Uber’s other auto services, UberPop connected users with non-professional drivers who did not face the same regulatory requirements as taxi and limo drivers.
Today Uber has been fined €800,000, reported Reuters, although half of this fine has been suspended.
An Uber France spokesperson told local media it was disappointed by the decision.
UberPop suspended its service in France in July 2015.
UberPop has been declared illegal by courts in Italy, Spain and Germany, and appeals are pending in Belgium and the Netherlands.
