One of the most important takeaways from the contest is how Republicans have completely lost their grip in the nation’s most populous state.

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are both hoping to win by big margins today, though Clinton is ahead of Sanders by hundreds of pledged delegates (and even more hundreds if you count superdelegates). According to a 2014 Pew Research study in Party Affiliation trends, 44% of voters are registered independents, with just over 50% registered with one of the major parties.

Even though Clinton is very close to securing the nomination, Montana Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Kennan said voter interest in the presidential race is high in the state.
Eight million of the state’s almost 18 million registered voters – 45 percent – were expected to take part in California’s presidential primary, the majority of them voting by mail, according to estimates by the Field Poll released Monday.
“I have talked to a large variety of Republicans that strongly support Trump, and there are others that are coming around more slowly”, Essmann said. “Those votes are already locked in”, Zilber said, adding, “I think Bernie Sanders supporters are still going to come out in force”. Both are looking to replace retiring U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, whose exit put her Senate seat up for grabs for the first time since 1992. California’s primary system allows the top two vote-getters to compete past the primary. Since 1992, Democrats have gained ground on Republicans in every Orange County city but Seal Beach, Laguna Woods and Los Alamitos.

Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown, a moderate Democrat from San Bernardino, was leading attorney Eloise Gomez-Reyes, who is challenging her from the left, and Republican Aissa Chanel Sanchez.
I suspect a strong anti-Trump contingent will also drive up Democratic participation, particularly among African-American and Latino voters. The app also gives citizens the ability to figure out where they are registered to vote.
All but two of the districts will pit Democrats against each other.
