Sandra Bullock joined by Elizabeth Banks in all-female Ocean’s 11
In a world where online trolls have turned the female-led Ghostbusters reboot into YouTube’s most hated movie trailer, news that Warner Bros is planning to relaunch its Ocean’s 11 franchise with an all-female lineup has mostly flown under the radar.

Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling have all pitched their names to the project. Bullock’s character is believed to be Danny Ocean’s sister, and the plot reportedly revolves around her plan to steal a necklace from the Met Ball to frame a crooked gallery owner. The site also confirms that Jennifer Lawrence, who was rumored for the project last month, will not be joining after all.
Soderbergh directed two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, which make up the Ocean’s Trilogy.
The all-woman Ocean’s 11 reboot that may or may not be entitled Ocean’s Ocho just added two big names to a cast now led by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, which means there are either four or seven women left to join the heist.
While it seems Soderbergh might be involved in the new film, the director attached so far is Gary Ross, who counts the Tom Hanks classic Big among his writing credits, also directing films like Pleasantville.

But she had a big hit previous year in Pixar’s Inside Out, and she should make for a fun addition to the Ocean’s Eleven cast. Still, the series is in itself a remake: the original film, released in 1960 as a rat pack vehicle, starring Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in the two leading roles, with many other iconic performers like Sammy Davis Jr. After all, shooting is only slated to begin “early 2017”, so there’s time yet for reports and confirmations.
