Von Miller talks stall despite big offer

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of negotiations, said Miller’s representatives rejected a six-year, $114.5 million offer that included $39.8 million in guarantees in the first two years. It was reported that the franchise had hoped to get him signed well before the July 15 deadline in the hopes Miller would show up to offseason workouts. To nobody’s surprise, the gap has been a tough one to bridge; if Schefter’s report proved anything, it was that the Broncos, not Miller, seem to be the party moving their price. If the sides don’t return to the table and work out a deal, he would have to play the 2016 season under the one-year $14.129 million tender. Thomas learned that contract negotiations on large deals, especially under the specter of the franchise tag, can get messy and take time.

Talib missed the Broncos’ visit to the White House on Monday after being shot in Dallas over the weekend.

John Elway and company applied the exclusive franchise tag to then-UFA Von Miller back on March 1st, just before the start of 2016 National Football League free agency.

The Broncos’ six-year offer slightly exceeds the $114.375 million contract signed by Dolphins defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh in 2015, according to Denver’s 9News, but that offer was supposed to have a 10 p.m. Tuesday deadline.

Normally, a player is insane for not accepting a six-year, $114 million deal.

Miller had two sacks in the Super Bowl and 2 1/2 sacks in the AFC championship game. However, a Broncos source said Wednesday that talks have not “broken off”. He looked good. You want all your guys here.

“We’ve made real progress over the last couple of days and I’m very optimistic about the whole thing so, yeah, I remain optimistic about everything, ” Miller said Monday. The Broncos then would be unable to apply the “exclusive” franchise tag next offseason.

The last two position players who were designated as the Broncos’ franchise players – tackle Ryan Clady and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas – were not signed until just before the deadline for franchise players, which was about two weeks before training camp opened.
