Events at Lichfield Cathedral to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday

She actually turned 90 on April 21 but more celebrations are lined up for this weekend, including a service of thanksgiving, set to be attended by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday.

Meanwhile, All Saint’s Church, Holbeach, is hosting a Queen’s Official 90th Birthday Celebration in the churchyard on Sunday at 4pm.

The revised prayer has extra lines which ask that God, who “has seen fit to preserve the Queen in life and good health beyond her ninetieth year, continue to guard her and deliver her from all trouble and sorrow”.

The Queen’s Birthday Honours List is also announced and the Union flag is flown from government buildings.

Speaking before the occasion, Ambassador Hall Hall said, “This year the Queen celebrates her 90th Birthday, so it is a very special occasion for all British people, including our embassy in Tbilisi”.

“Through war and hardship, through turmoil and change, we have been fearfully and wonderfully sustained”. Her children and Prince William hold rank, as does her beloved husband Prince Philip.

Veteran naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough, who was born in the same year as the queen, read “Reflections on the Passing of the Years” by Paddington Bear author Michael Bond.

Royal fever will take over the Helston and Lizard area next weekend when communities will come together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. Royal fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of Princess Charlotte if she makes her first appearance on the balcony for the annual RAF flypast.

The Queen will be fêted over the course of three busy days, starting with a special church service on Friday.

To conclude celebrations, the queen hosts “The Patrons Lunch” for 10,000 guests at the largest street party ever to be held on the Mall, the grand avenue that leads to Buckingham Palace, an event organised by her grandson, Peter Phillips.

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry were all in attendance, while Prince Andrew and his daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice also made up the royal party.

After the three-day extravaganza, the queen is expected to turn her attention to the horse racing season and her lengthy summer holiday in Scotland.
