Barcelona are believed to have made it clear that any prospective buyer would have to pay the £22m release clause in the player’s contract to initiate talks and no club has yet done so.

Pedro has struggled to gain a place in the starting XI with Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez keeping him out of the team.

“These are rumours I have heard but I don’t know the situation”, said Guardiola during an Audi Cup news conference when asked whether Pedro would be able to adapt to the Premier League.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out a move away from the club for Manchester United transfer target Pedro. He was won everything.

Pedro played the full ninety minutes in Barca’s 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina yesterday which may have been one final attempt from Luis Enrique to persuade the player to stay, but I think it’s obvious he needs to leave in order to get more regular minutes under his belt. He has played at many positions.

With Di Maria on his way out of Old Trafford, Van Gaal has named the Barca winger as the flawless candidate to fill the void left by the former Real Madrid star.

The Spanish worldwide has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and the Mirror reported last week that United officials had held initial talks with Barcelona ahead of their friendly game in the United States last month.
