The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a pickup truck, drove off after slamming into the group, according to Michigan Live. Police confirm several witnesses called in to report the man behind the wheel of this blue pick-up was driving erratically.

The prosecutor identified three of the bicyclists who were killed as Debra Ann Bradley, 53; Melissa Ann Fevig-Hughes, 42; and Suzanne Joan Sippel, 56, all of Augusta.

Authorities say a vehicle slammed into a group of at least eight bicyclists in west MI, leaving an unknown number of people dead and others injured.

Police are continuing to gather information on what led to the crash and the charges were the first step in the legal process, he said.

Of the four cyclists seriously injured in the crash, two remained in serious condition Wednesday at Bronson Methodist Hospital. The accident happened on Tuesday just north of Kalamazoo, Michigan, in Kalamazoo County.

The 50-year-old driver, who has yet to be identified, ran away on foot before being taken into police custody.

Names of the driver and victims were not released as police were still notifying families late Tuesday. She was valued and cherished member of the KBS community who impacted the lives of many of us in her role as a science data manager and enthusiastic support for bike riding and educational activities in the community. Two other patients are being treated at Borgess Medical Center, with one person in critical condition and the other in fair condition, spokesman Lew Tysman said.

Snyder said in a statement Wednesday that his “thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kalamazoo and particularly the cyclists and their families”.
