11 dead, 7 injured in building collapse in Thane

Thane: At least six people were killed and another 15 hurt when a residential building crashed here in Maharashtra early Tuesday, officials said. The incident killed at least 11 people, 17 are still trapped under the debris, whereas, many are severely injured.

They said the injured had been rushed to nearby hospitals in the city.

Following the collapse of a three-storey structure that occurred in Thakurli last week, yet another housing society crumbled in Thane.

This is the second unsafe building to fall within a week in Thane. “The rescue operation has been on since we reached here at 4 AM”. The building collapsed at 2:45 am today. According to media reports, the Thane Municipal Corporation had issued notices to the residents of the building to vacate it because of its dilapidated condition, but some families continued to stay there.

Shinde, who visited the spot, said, “The government will undertake a survey of dilapidated buildings in the area”.
