Missouri Department of Health confirms two more cases of Zika
According to the CDC, babies with microcephaly often have smaller head sizes and brains that might not have developed properly. Death from the Zika virus is rare in all ages; however, recently in the USA jurisdiction of Puerto Rico, a death has occurred in an elderly man. The test, which requires blood and urine specimens, is available for order by physicians.

The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). As of June 1, all of the 618 reported cases of the virus in the USA were travel-related.
The Cayman Islands remains free of the Zika virus, public health officials said, after a recent suspected case appears to be due to sexual transmission. The test is only authorized for use as long as the circumstances exist for its justification.
Last week, the World Health Organization revised its guidelines for sex and Zika for anyone returning from travel to an affected country, saying couples should wait a full eight weeks to have unprotected sex or attempt to conceive a baby, even if there are no symptoms of the disease. Gregg Hunt, with Beaufort County Mosquito Control, says they spray to help keep them away. The mosquito-borne illness found mostly in Central and Latin American countries has been shown to cause serious birth defects. Osceola has reported six, and Seminole four.
The biggest expense on that list will be to pay for more workers to spray for mosquitoes.
The areas that need it are then sprayed from a truck at ground level.
In Elberta, town officials have distributed more than 3,000 postcards with Zika warnings to the town’s residents within the city limits and police jurisdiction. “The most important part of our control program is if the residents and visitors can empty standing water on their property”, Hunt said. County spraying starts in June and runs through September. “We expect them to do their job”, Scott said. What do we know and what don’t we know about Zika, and how can we protect ourselves and families? The treatments were prompted by an uptick in dead birds and infected mosquitoes.
Standing water and grass clippings draw daytime biters into a Gravid trap. The county distributes larvicide tablets at its animal shelter in Summerdale and offices in Robertsdale and Bay Minette.

In addition, the website includes links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Zika virus Web page, information for pregnant women, a map of confirmed cases of Zika in the United States, products used to control mosquitoes and educational activities for children. The first human cases of Zika were detected in 1952 and have just recently been increasing in number due to better detection.
