FENDRICH ON TENNIS: Time to talk Grand Slam bid for Djokovic
Djokovic, 29, beat British player Andy Murray, who is also 29, in four sets in the final, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

While Federer (17 majors), Nadal and Pete Sampras (both 14) still top Djokovic in the list of all-time grand slam title holders, it is not inconceivable that within a few years, the Serb will have left everyone in his wake.
Djokovic said: “I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I really think everything is achievable in life”. But Djokovic also now has done something neither Federer nor Nadal, for all of their accomplishments, ever managed: win four Grand Slam titles in a row, a feat last pulled off by Rod Laver in 1969. Djokovic now can set his sights on that ultimate tennis achievement; he’s the first man since Jim Courier in 1992 to get halfway.
Novak, by virtue of his french open win, completed a career slam and presently holds all the major trophy at once.
That was Djokovic’s 12th Grand Slam title to add to his six at the Australian Open, three at Wimbledon and two at the US Open.
“These two guys, and Andy as well, have helped me to become a better player and helped me achieve all these things”, said Djokovic. He joins Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
Novak Djokovic says he had a feeling this year’s Roland Garros campaign would be different to his previous visits to the French capital, after finally lifting the La Coupe des Mousquetaire trophy. “I nearly managed to find a way at the end of that fourth set to keep the match going but it was not enough”.
Muguruza defeated Serena Williams of the U.S.in their final match of the French Open tennis tourna.
“Today, I probably experienced one of the most attractive moments in my professional tennis career”, the Serb told CNN.
Murray went for Djokovic just as he promised.
“I’m very disappointed. You know, from 13 days ago, I maybe would have signed to have been in this position”.
Djokovic would not say so but achieving something that neither Federer nor Nadal has ever done must give him vast satisfaction.
“Nadal and Federer were so dominant in the sport when Andy and myself came in in the mix. The match with Richard [Gasquet] I think was just over three hours”, said Murray, who acknowledged that delays due to rainy weather have been a big factor during the fortnight. “It’s so rare in tennis, and for me personally, it sucks to lose the match, but I’m proud to have been part of today”.
The world No.1 said: “On the last point I don’t even remember what happened”. “Fortunately for me, I realized that I need to get stronger, and that I need to accept the fact that I’m competing with these two tremendous champions”.

As for completing a season slam, he went on: “Winning this trophy gave me so much happiness and fulfilment. Right now I just try to enjoy this experience of winning the trophy that I never won before”. “Whether or not I can reach a calendar slam, that’s still a possibility”.
