Clinton, Warren to huddle after endorsement, stoking VP speculation

Obama defeated Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary and she went on to serve as secretary of state in his first term.

The former first lady said on Twitter that she was “honoured” to have the president’s support and her campaign announced that Obama would join Clinton for a public event next Wednesday in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“I want to congratulate Hillary Clinton on making history”, US President Obama said in a message posted to Clinton’s official YouTube page on Thursday.

Warren was the only holdout among the Senate’s Democratic women and, given her stature among liberals, her endorsement was seen as a potentially important boost for Clinton.

And yesterday Mr Obama formally endorsed his former secretary of state as the candidate.

Republicans including Trump have savaged her for her judgment, saying she put USA national security at risk, and have accused her of deleting key emails that she did not want Americans to see.

But Warren’s backing may be more politically important for Clinton than Obama’s blessing.

US President Barack Obama walks with Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders at the White House in Washington, DC, on Thursday.

On Tuesday Mrs Clinton secured enough delegates to become the Democratic nominee.

Her tweet earned more than ten times the re-tweet’s Trump’s did, but prompted desperation from some, who feared the direction United States politics seemed to be heading in. “And I can’t wait to get out there and campaign with Hillary”.

Warren has recently issued a string of tweets mocking and denouncing Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, as unqualified to sit in the Oval Office. “She’s got the courage, compassion and the heart to get the job done”, Obama said.

Obama’s endorsement comes just hours after his meeting with Senator Bernie Sanders about the status of his campaign.

To that end, he said he had called and spoken to Clinton, and was “looking forward to working together” to prevent the controversial real estate mogul’s political success.
