‘Voice’ Contestant Christina Grimmie Dead at 22

A gunman opened fire at a Florida concert venue as singer Christina Grimmie signed autographs for fans after a show, killing the onetime star of “The Voice” before shooting and killing himself, officials said Saturday. Ap reported that Grimmie publicist Heather Walsh confirmed that ” Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord”.

The 22-year-old came third on season 6 of the U.S. singing competition back in 2014, and she was in Adam Levine’s team.

“We are heartbroken”, said “The Voice” in a Twitter post late Friday.

According to WFTV, fans tweeted from inside the venue after hearing six gun shots.

Singer Christina Grimmie tragically died after falling victim to an attack on Friday night following a concert performance. Authorities stated Grimmie was signing autographs and helping to sell merchandise when a man approached her and fired.

“This should have been something that was fun and exciting and of course when something like this happens its just a tragedy”, she said, calling Grimmie’s brother a “hero”.

A spokeswoman said: “Detectives were told the suspect – who is not being identified at this time – walked toward Christina and shot her”.

Grimmie first came to prominence as a teenager for her renditions of hit songs, amassing a huge following on YouTube.

An investigation is ongoing into her death.

In 2014 she completed on the sixth season of “The Voice” where she was placed third.

Early Saturday, a tribute to Grimmie was posted on the show’s Twitter account that read, in part, “We lost a attractive soul with an awesome voice”. Grimmie “is a loved member of our family”. As soon as her death was being confirmed social media was full of the hash tags under the statement RIPChristina as her fans showed grief on her death. Our thoughts are with her and her family.
