Giant inflatable Minion causes havoc in Dublin

However, motorists in the Santry area of Dublin today (August 3) were brought to a standstill when a 40ft Minion inflatable broke free of its restraints and blew into the road.

This was how it looked yesterday…

Erin Van Londen, who saw the event unfold, said: ‘I’m not sure how it got loose but I just saw it coming loose and flying across the road as we were driving. One witness told the local news The Journal that the Minion knocked the side-mirror off his auto.

The giant prop was stopped and his air was let out, but not before he caused some traffic problems at around 3pm.

“I actually rang the gardai. It was quite an odd thing to have to report”, Erin said.

The Minion was deflated by police and passers-by and its colossal 30 foot frame was folded up and taken away in a wheelbarrow.

Could it have had more serious consequences?

The Minions have been travelling the world since time began to find their leader (or so the film goes…) and it seems their latest destination was north Dublin.

Cllr McAuliffe has referred the incident to the City Council’s planning enforcement department to investigate if the inflatable cartoon character was the subject of any planning regulation and to question operators if appropriate health and safety measures were in place.
