Donald Trump Shows Vets The Money After Charity Backlash
Trump held a contentious press conference on Tuesday in which he blasted the media for questioning his commitment to donate $5.6 million raised during an event in January when he skipped a Fox News presidential debate. “I don’t think it’s anybody’s business if I want to send money to the vets”, he said.

Following Donald Trump’s criticisms of the political press yesterday, various reporters have hurried to tell us that he is making a mistake.
But his campaign refused for months to disclose which charities received the money. She also rebutted Trump’s claim that she has given “nothing” to the veterans, noting that she personally donated to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund while raising money for the group alongside John McCain. “Instead of being like thank you very much, Mr. Trump, or Trump did a good job, everyone is saying who got it, who got it, who got it, and you make me look very bad”.
Veterans protesting Donald Trump Tuesday told CBS the billionaire needs to stop using them as “props” in his campaign for the presidency. Lately, besides blasting the news media, he also attacked William Kristol, whose uncompromising brand of conservatism apparently will not allow him to back Trump, and a federal judge presiding over a civil fraud case against Trump University.
Take, for example, Trump’s press conference in Manhattan on Tuesday: a tour de force performance of misleading and untruthful statements mixed in with a heavy dose of press bashing and self-serving arguments.
Trump accused the protestors outside his news conference of being “sent” by Hillary Clinton.
On Tuesday, about a dozen local NY veterans protested outside Trump Tower, holding signs such as “Vets vs. Hate”.
While the country took pause this week on Memorial Day to remember the men and women who have served the nation, some veterans were marching outside Trump Tower in a show of solidarity against Donald Trump, who has been under pressure for months to reveal how much money was collected and distributed in his very public veterans fundraiser in January.
It’s the biggest donation the organization has ever received, but Executive Director Keith Howard said the publicity Trump deliver has been nearly as valuable. His complaints dominated an event that was supposed to be about Trump’s own charity – and provided new evidence that, even as the presumptive GOP front-runner, Trump is inclined to air his grievances and rivalries publicly.
“What I don’t want is when I raise millions of dollars, have people say, like this sleazy guy right over here from ABC”, Trump said of Llamas.
“No wonder that faith in our institutions has never been lower, particularly when good news doesn’t get the same kind of ratings as bad news anymore”, Obama said during a 2012 commencement speech at Barnard College. “All of the groups that have gotten the money will be announced on Tuesday”.
The public check presentations trickled off within days, though some of the groups contacted by the AP did report receiving checks in February, March and April.
What happened on Fifth Avenue may signal a new phase in Trump’s relationship with the press.
Trump batted aside questions on whether he needed a thicker skin to run for the presidency.
CNN received no response when it emailed and telephoned Associated Community Services or from Bob McDonald, president of the Foundation for American Veterans.

After that, however, Trump became reluctant to release details about what had become of the money. The groups that have received donations say that the gifts had a huge impact and that they were enormously grateful.
