It will air on the Fox News Channel, with moderators Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace. The top candidates will be determined by an average of five different polls.

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Sunday showed Trump as the first choice of 19 percent of GOP primary voters, followed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 15 percent and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 14 percent.

Anticipating Trump’s debate strategy has become a constant conversation for campaign aides who worry the other candidates’ messages will be lost in a flood of rhetoric and provocative attacks.

“Well, I full well expect to be on the stage, but as a lot of people recognize, this is not a one shot pony here”, declared Perry. “I don’t stand up and debate like these politicians”.

The elephant in the room is an English expression for an obvious truth that is either being ignored or is not being addressed. He lowered expectations for his own performance while attacking his rivals for being better at debating than at getting things done.

The news may be troubling for some in the GOP who have dismissed Trump’s success thus far. And every candidate spoke quickly – under the unique format, candidates could answer as many questions as they could within the time limit. This distinction increasingly makes Bush look like the safe bet for Republicans nervous over Trump’s rise to the A-list.

Trump also is tied with Christie as the candidate viewed as the least honest, at 17 percent each. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, former business executive Carly Fiorina and former New York Gov. George Pataki, all of whom have little chance of squeaking into the debate.

“I’m not going to take anybody, I’m going to say what I’m for”, Walker told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly when asked how he would handle the billionaire frontrunner. The two most famous people in the race are diametrically opposed: unconventional and brash, versus establishment and thoughtful.

Should Perry qualify for the tenth slot, he might want to duck. It was 40% favorable to 41% unfavorable three weeks ago. “This makes it very hard for his opponents to figure out how to take him on in the upcoming debate”.
