Lavrov to hold talks with Kerry, Saudi FM in Qatar

Lavrov added that the matter had been raised with US Secretary of State John Kerry when they met earlier Monday in Qatar’s capital Doha.

In a statement released in Gaza, the Hamas official said a delegation led by Meshaal briefed Lavrov on conditions in the Gaza Strip, which the Islamist movement rules, in the aftermath of last summer’s war with Israel.

Meshaal additionally mentioned with Lavrov “Zionist terrorism within the West Bank and its assaults on Muslim and Christian websites in Jerusalem”, the official stated, three days after an arson assault by suspected Jewish militants killed a Palestinian toddler.

Sergei Lavrov will also hold trilateral talks with his US and Saudi counterparts during his visit. Russian Federation reiterated that diplomatic talks between Israel and the Palestinians must include Hamas. Russian Federation says it should not be isolated.

In another apparent criticism of Washington, Lavrov said: “We are seriously concerned about the continuing crisis in Syria and the humanitarian disaster that has broken out in the country, and are in favour of an immediate end to external intervention in the Syrian crisis”.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Qatari Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, Lavrov stressed that Islamic State posed the main threat in Syria and in the Middle East in general.
