Williams said Schatzow would face sanctions.

Gray was arrested April 12, 2015, after making eye contact with police in his West Baltimore neighborhood and then running.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Goodson’s lawyers claimed the state failed to disclose a meeting it had with the only other passenger in the van-Donta Allen, whose testimony will not be used because he reportedly provided inconsistent accounts of what happened, at first stating that Gray was thrashing around in the van and later saying that Gray merely banged his head.

Goodson is accused of second-degree depraved heart murder, the most serious charge against the six officers accused in Gray’s death.

Caesar Goodson, the Baltimore police officer who drove the van that Freddie Gray was held in before his death, has begun his trial.

The trial of one officer in Gray’s death ended in a hung jury.

At both prior cases, police and expert witnesses have testified that officers routinely ignored agency rules directing that detainees be secured with a seat belt, and said the ultimate responsibility fell to the van driver.

The van made six stops on the way from Mr Gray’s arrest to the police station.

“The question is going to be, ‘How reckless is it to drive with someone who’s passively resisting arrest and is shackled and not buckled in?'” he said. The judge sternly admonished prosecutors and said it was the third such time they have been found committing a discovery violation. We also hope to see all the officers involved in Gray’s death sitting next to him on a cell couch.

“He was injured because he got a ‘rough ride, ‘” Schatzow told Williams. Witnesses have said Gray was screaming and kicking inside the police van.

‘There will be no evidence showing (Goodson) gave a rough ride or drove improperly, ‘ he said at the start of what is considered the highest-profile trial in the case.

Gray died April 19, 2015, a week after he suffered a critical spinal injury in the back of Goodson’s wagon.

Defense attorneys argue that prosecutors didn’t notify them that they met with a second man who was in the police van.

Graham also alleged that the medical examiner who performed Gray’s autopsy believed he died as a result of an accident, but changed her opinion after working with prosecutors “under a very pressurized situation”.
