Spirits are high but there are fears that rain could spoil the fun with thundery showers heading for central London.
Guests were provided with hampers with picnic food including sandwiches, salmon mousse, a pork pie with a crown on top and desert, along with the traditional British summer drink, Pimms.
“The queen has had many celebrations in her honour over the years but there’s never really been an appreciation or recognition of the number of organisations she is personally attached to through her patronage”, Phillips said.
He told Sky News: “It’s a tight timeline, everyone has been scratching their heads over the past few months wondering how we’re going to do it, but the team have been incredible and everyone has stepped up to the mark and so far so good”.
The guests will come from some of the more than 600 charities and other organisations of which she is patron with the festivities beamed to large screens in the capital’s parks.
The monarch will attend to watch a carnival-style procession.
They cover a whole range of areas including the Armed Services, children and young people, animals, and arts and culture.
The organisers have encouraged people up and down the country to join the celebrations by holding their own street parties.
The special event is ticketed and those who have bought the £150 package will be provided with lunch, entertainment and rain ponchos. The event is expected to draw throngs of Britons and visitors to Buckingham Palace for a possible balcony appearance by the senior royals.
It’s the last event of the three-day celebration to mark her landmark birthday.
The Queen looked just as smashing, marking her milestone birthday in a vibrant green coat and dress by Stewart Parvin and matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan, which was decorated with cerise colored flowers.
