McIlroy, 26, was the defending champion at The Open and this week’s Bridgestone.

McIlroy missed his first of two major title defenses in 2015, skipping the Open Championship last month at St. Andrews after he suffered a ruptured ATFL ligament in his left ankle during a July 4 soccer game with friends.

McIlroy’s manager, Sean O’Flaherty, did not respond to an email seeking comment. He has ruled himself out of this week’s World Golf Championship event in Akron, Ohio. McIlroy finished third, one shot out of a playoff, when the PGA was played at Whistling Straits in 2010.

The 26-year-old has booked practice round at Whistling Straits leading to speculation that he’s close to a comeback. While word is that McIlroy’s rehab has been going well, most indications were that the injury takes more than what would be a five- week period to heal.

This video was recorded back on June 12 during the PGA media day, so the guys had the whole course to themselves. He also won last year’s PGA Championship.

McIlroy would lose his No. 1 ranking should Jordan Spieth win the WGC Bridgestone this week.
