Dead After 50-Year-Old Building Collapses in Thane
Earlier in the week, a Thakurli district building collapsed in Thane, which killed at least 9 people.

The building has been crashed at 2:30 am when people living in the building were asleep. officials suspect that almost 20 people might be under the debris.
Mumbai and its surrounding areas in the western Indian state of Maharashtra experience heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September. Rescue operations are now underway and a team of the NDRF is at the site. Those injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
More than 10 people are feared to be trapped inside the debris.
Guardian Minister Eknath Shind, Collector Ashwini Joshi, Municipal Commissioner are also monitoring the rescue operation.
Rajan Khatri, who works as a security guard in adjoining building said “Around 2 am, I heard a loud noise”. I saw whole building collapsed in 5 seconds. On July 29, Matruchhaya Building collapsed, killing nine occupants and injuring five. More than 15 persons are suspected to be trapped inside the building, said Thane Municipal Offficer.

Shinde said the only remedy to check collapse would be to speedily renovate all old and dilapidated buildings.
