Thane: At least six people were killed and another 15 hurt when a residential building crashed here in Maharashtra early Tuesday, officials said.
Several people are feared to be trapped under the debris. District collector Dr. Ashwini Joshi and guardian minister Ekanth Shinde are supervising the rescue operations, which is still in progress.
NDRF deputy commandant Sachidanand Gavde informed that the incident took place around 2 am.
This is the second building collapse reported from Thane recently. The building was soon to be demolished and the residents had been told to vacate it, authorities reportedly said at the time.
The building, Krishna Niwas, was almost 50-year-old and was in a dilapidated state. People are reportedly forced to live in such conditions due to rising real estate prices in these areas.

The accident is the latest in a long line of deadly building collapses recently, some of which have highlighted poor construction standards.
