Star Trek: Bridge Crew impressed Star Trek actors

It seems that the previously leaked information on the forthcoming Star Trek: Bridge Crew from publisher Ubisoft and developer Red Storm was accurate and we now have confirmation that the title will support the Oculus Rift VR headset.

The (American) ABC today reports that Ubisoft will detail a Star Trek VR bridge simulator at E3.

“The bridge crew is the heart of Star Trek”, Red Storm Senior Creative Director David Votypka explained during an E3 demo. They talk to each other to co-ordinate their actions. This marks the first time that the Star Trek universe (specifically the JJ Abrams version of the universe) has been officially adapted into a VR title.

“This wasn’t anything like you see on the show”, Ryan said. If Bridge Crew is anything like Artemis, though, we’re on board. “This was incredible. It’s what it would be like if it were real”. Each role is crucial to the success of the varied missions players face, and only by working together can the crew complete their objectives.

Have you ever wanted to take the captain’s chair of a Federation starship? “That’s an awesome sensation, especially when you’re playing in VR with friends”. Participants included Karl Urban, Jery Ryan and LeVar Burton.

Bridge Crew gives players the choice of manning various bridge stations, including tactical, helm and engineering.

Votypka also revealed that Bridge Crew will have both randomly-generated and story-driven mission, but won’t only be focused on taken down shooting down Romulans and Klingons. It’s a plot that centers on exploration and cooperation, and it’s bound to lead to situations where you won’t know whether to raise shields and prepare for combat, or try to make first contact.
