Ever so slowly, Sacramento gas prices are rising.

“We’re sticking by our January forecast that told of an average USA gas price of $2.41 per gallon during the summer driving season”, said Patrick DeHann, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, which surveys thousands of gas stations across the nation.

Statewide, the average price of regular gas is $2.46 per gallon, up 0.4 cents a gallon from a week ago.

DeHaan said analysts are sticking by their January forecast that told of an average US gas price of $2.41 per gallon during the summer driving season. The cheapest gas is $2.59 at the Marathon at Springfield-Xenia Road near Sparrow Road. But the average dropped 1 cent to $2.33 in Florida and 1 cent to $2.26 in Georgia.

Average retail gas prices rose.5 cents per gallon last week on the Island, compared to a 2.4 cent nationwide increase according to Gas Buddy, which tracks gas prices.

Even though West Coast motorists saw some increases in the price at the pump concurrent with week-to-week increases in wholesale gasoline, they’re still enjoying prices that represent the greatest savings in the US year-to-date. That’s about 15¢ less than it was at the same point past year. The average price in Akron is $2.68.

Oil prices are going up, but the increase hasn’t shown up at the gas pump. “25-cents-to-45-cents below a year ago, like the rest of the country”.

However, DeHaan said gasoline prices are coming closer to their summer highs and should level off relatively soon.

But analysts still expect gasoline prices to cool in the next few weeks.
