Orlando nightclub shooting: What we know
The shootings started around 2 a.m. ET on Sunday, when an extra-duty police officer in full uniform providing security at Pulse Nightclub engaged Mateen in a gun battle. G4S did not respond to requests for comment via emails and phone calls. During that call he is believed to have pledged allegiance to ISIS. Several officers arrived at the club in response to the shooting, walked inside and exchanged gunfire with Mateen, Mina said during a news conference Monday. “Based on the calls he was cool and calm”, he said.

Chief Mina said: “He wasn’t really asking for much”. We have a lot of reporters in Orlando, doing hard but important work. They married in 2009, her brother confirmed with NBC10’s Cydney Long, but their time together was relatively brief because once the family found out Yusufiy was being abused, they went down to Florida to get her. The officer engaged with the shooter near an entrance.
“They forced him to stop shooting and he retreated to the bathroom”, Mina said.
On the same day as the Orlando attack, an IN man armed with three assault rifles and chemicals used to make explosives was arrested IN Southern California and told police he was headed to a West Hollywood gay pride parade, authorities said.
ATF agents said Monday there were two weapons recovered on the scene and both weapons traced to the last known purchaser, who is the shooter.
Investigators are also working to trace a third gun found in his vehicle.
Police killed Mateen while he tried to crawl through the hole in the wall.
‘So far as we know at this time, his first direct contact was a pledge of bayat (loyalty) he made during the massacre, ‘ said a United States counterterrorism official.
“But we’ll look at it in an open and honest way and be transparent about it”, he said. So far, 48 have been identified and 24 of the next of kin have been notified.
A GoFundMe page set up following Sunday’s massacre at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub has raised more than $1.3 million for the victims’ families and that number continues to grow.
President Barack Obama says there’s no clear evidence that the Orlando nightclub shooter was directed to conduct his attack or part of a larger plot. President Obama and Vice President Biden will also meet with officials to discuss the ongoing situation in Orlando on Monday.
“I have remained in constant communication with federal, state and local law enforcement”, Gov. Scott said.
Fifty people died when a gunman allegedly inspired by the Islamic State group opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Florida, in the worst terror attack on USA soil since September 11, 2001. In a series of videos showing him hosting the Duran Jirga Show, Mateen makes “pro-Taliban” remarks and “anti-US tirades”, according to an Afghan official.

The FBI director also filled in more details about the events in the early hours of Sunday.
