Bumpers are new, with a wider lower grille at front and a new shape at the rear that Renault says sports “additional robustness”.

With the choice of new alloys and wheel trims, four new colours become available – Mars Red, Titanium Grey, Arctic White and Iron Blue.

Renault has given its Clio small hatch range a modest refresh for the 2017 model year, with some minor tweaks to exterior styling that help modernise its appearance, but stop short of bringing it into line with Renault’s new breed of passenger cars. There are, however, new chrome trim pieces inside, which now feature a matt finish. Higher end models boast Easy Park Assist, which will carry out parking maneuvers in their entirety for drivers.

The petrol engine range, consisting of 70kW 0.9-litre and 88kW 1.2-litre turbopetrols, carries over as before, but the latter is now available with a six-speed manual gearbox for the first time. Base models get a smartphone app that uses your phone as an infotainment panel, while higher-spec versions get Renault’s R-Link Evolution or Media Nav Evolution systems that use a conventional built-in touchscreen display. Renault is keen to point out the Clio is the only B-segment vehicle to receive a BOSE sound system too.

For the first time the auto can be fitted with a BOSE audio system, while front parking sensors and a reversing camera are added to the equipment available, and range-topping models can come with Handsfree parking. The full details of these systems is not yet available.

New engine options for the facelifted Clio include a 1.5 litre dCi 110 diesel engine with 108 hp.
