NASA And United Arab Emirates Team Up For Big Space Project

A new agreement between the U.S. and UAE should usher in an era of collaborative aeronautics and space science. After all, the UAE has also signed similar agreements of cooperation with China, the United Kingdom, and Russian Federation.

His homolog, Dr. Khalifa Romaithi, talked about how the US and UAE had been allies for a long time sharing economic, cultural and diplomatic bonds. Mr. Bolden stated that NASA is heading the path of an ambitious project of Mars, which involves teaming up with the private sector and several global entities. Over the past few months, the country’s space agency has also signed agreements with Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and China to increase collaboration in research and space exploration.

Bolden is touting the UAE agreement as another step toward Mars that just happens to be moving NASA and mankind as a whole toward other, better things.

A new multinational space exploration agreement was signed on Sunday. At the same time, this partnership could also pay off well for NASA.

Meanwhile, this is not the first cooperative agreement the UEAs space agency has made.

The deal makes sense despite the UAE’s relative lack of experience with space travel. For NASA, this offers chances to both reduce its reliance on Russian Federation and stretch its budget a little further.

In the case of the UAE Space Agency (UAESA), it has plans to carry out unmanned probe to Mars by 2021.

“NASA is leading an ambitious journey to Mars that includes partnerships with the private sector and many global partners”, said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden in a statement released on Monday. “I am confident this new framework agreement with the UAE Space Agency will help advance this journey“.

Yesterday in Abu Dhabi, NASA Administrator Charles Boden and the UAE Space Agency’s chairman Dr. Khalifa Al Romaithi signed the deal.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden and United Arab Emirates Space Agency Chairman Khalifa Al Romaithi have signed an agreement for both countries to collaborate on aeronautics research as well as the exploration and use of both the atmosphere’s airspace and outer space.

The NASA statement further details the agreement in vague terms about “cooperation and collaboration in space science, operational Earth observation and Earth science, aeronautics, space operations and exploration, education, technology, safety and mission assurance, and other areas”.

The pact encourages cooperation in space, including allowing the UAE joint use of NASA aircraft and spacecraft, access to ground-based research facilities, and placing UAE’s scientific instruments in space.

It is now official that the United States and the UAE will join forces to work in aeronautics research and “the exploration of airspace and outer space for peaceful purposes.”
