Six killed in Thane building crash

A three-storeyed building has collapsed in the Naupada area of Thane city in Maharashtra has left six people dead. On July 28, a residential building had collapsed in Thakurli in Thane, killing nine. The incident killed at least 11 people, 17 are still trapped under the debris, whereas, many are severely injured.

“Around 2 a.m., I heard a loud noise”. I saw whole building collapsed in 5 seconds.

“Eleven bodies have been recovered and seven people pulled out alive”.

The deputy commandant of NDRF, Sachidanand Gavde said, “We received a call around 3am and reached the spot by 4am”.

Sandeep Malvi, press officer with the Thane municipal corporation said that more than 15 people are feared to be trapped in the debris of the collapsed building.

Reports say the municipality had declared the old, dilapidated property risky to live in, but the residents had refused to vacate.

While some families had evacuated the building a few others continued to stay there, they added. Around 20 people were said to have been living in the building, which was about 35 years old.
