Two civilians killed, 10 injured after heavy Indian shelling near Sialkot

The Indian BSF started unprovoked heavy shelling on Pakistani border areas in Bajwat Sector early on Tuesday morning. Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian shelling and silenced their guns. According to local reports, there have been 19 ceasefire violations along the India-Pakistan border in July, killing four people, including three military personnel, and injuring 14 others. He stated the Pakistani troops opened hearth first and the Indian troops “retaliated”. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to journalists.

In a similar attack in the same week, a civilian was critically injured as a result of unprovoked firing by BSF on LoC in the Chirikot sector.

Indian border forces have committed violation of the ceasefire for atleast 35 times after Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power in India previous year. The fishermen handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah Border.

Pakistan and India have fought two of their three wars over competing claims to Kashmir. A 2003 cease-fire largely has held despite small, but regular, skirmishes.

Since 1989 several rebel groups have been fighting hundreds of thousands of Indian forces deployed in the region, seeking independence or a merger of the territory with Pakistan.
