Multiple rescue vessels and aircrafts were deployed to the area and the victim was located by a 39-foot Maersk Wesport commercial ship, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard said its personnel battled “intense thunderstorms and darkness” to reach Sexton during Sunday night’s incident.

A man stranded 44 miles off the coast was dramatically rescued in this fantastic footage after treading water for four hours.

He was thrown a life preserver and soon hoisted from the water.

The Coast Guard launched a C-130 “Hercules” aircraft from the Elizabeth City, N.C. Air Station and an MH-65 “Dolphin” helicopter from the Atlantic City Air Station, as well as a boat crew from the Cape May Coast Guard Station, for the rescue.

The parents of 14-year-olds Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos say they will use money raised on a GoFundMe page to keep a private search going. EMS was waiting at the ramp and evaluated the man’s injuries before transporting him to Carteret General hospital. “Each member was critical to insuring the safe return of the survivor to his family”.
