Mexico and Venezuela meet in one of the final games of group play in Copa America on Monday, June 13, 2016, at NGR Stadium in Houston.
On Monday in Houston, we will see if Venezuela can pull off the next shocker in the tournament or if Mexico can keep rolling heading into the quarterfinals.
This was the first meeting between these teams since January 26, 2012, a 3-1 win by Mexico played in the same stadium.
Hernández netted one in the 18th minute to put El Tri ahead early, while Peralta buried Jamaica with a goal in the 81st minute. Mexico is the favored team to win this matchup. “The order and the willingness and desire to win have been a lot better”.
Miguel Layun, also a second-half substitute, had a chance for Mexico less than 60 seconds later but his effort went straight to Daniel Hernandez through a few bodies. In between times, Mexico lost Javier Aquino to injury with Jesus Manuel Corona taking his place.
Once given a second chance, Corona didn’t disappoint.
Corona’s goal continues a trend in the Osorio era. Mexico and Venezuela meet in Houston on the same evening with top place in the group, now held by the Mexicans on goal difference, at stake.
Venezuela is the Copa America Centenario’s Cinderella Story. More or less, it’s a combination of great organization, patience and a desire to overcome adversity.
While top spot in the group was up for grabs, Mexico and Venezuela had already qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, and there were plenty of changes made by both sides.
But Mexico held on as Jesus Corona’s goal in the 80 minute ensured they remain unbeaten in 22 matches and advance as well to the QFs. Los Vinotintos got a goal from Josef Martinez to beat Jamaica 1-0 and captured a second 1-0 victory with a goal from Salomon Rondon in a major upset of Uruguay.
Who will win this crucial Copa America game?

Mexico have conceded just two goals in their past 10 games, but both have come from set-pieces.
