Xbox Announces Project Scorpio
“So what we’re basically doing for us on the console is that we have Xbox One, Xbox One S and the hardware capability there, and then we have Scorpio”.

Microsoft also announced “Project Scorpio”, the next Xbox console in the pipeline, that will offer support for virtual reality. It is unclear which VR headsets will be compatible with Project Scorpio, though Facebook Inc.’s Oculus Rift could be a candidate as that device already is sold with an Xbox controller. Sony said last month it has sold 40 million PS4s. As Xbox head Phil Spencer hinted earlier this year, Microsoft is looking to break from the traditional cycle of console generations by releasing a significantly more powerful version of the Xbox One without moving on to a distinct new console.
This is substantial because despite the current Xbox being a larger device with a huge power “brick” Microsoft have managed to squeeze the power supply into the new device while also reducing the overall device size by 40 percent. Considering that both feature largely off-the-shelf AMD hardware, the Scorpio and the Xbox One can be likened to a high-end and a low-end PC rig. The Xbox One S will come in three variations, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB with a focus on 4K.
The high-storage models could appeal to gamers who prefer to download digital copies of games as opposed to swapping in and out games on discs.
The new device supports 4K video and is about 40 per cent smaller than the original model.
Also on Monday, Microsoft said it would soon make it possible for “Minecraft” fans to play the hit block-building game online together even when using different platforms, such as a mobile device.
Today was a good day for Xbox One fans, with Microsoft revealing a ton of new and exciting news at the company’s E3 event.
