Detroit Lions place Haloti Ngata on non-football injury list
The Lions today placed defensive tackle Haloti Ngata on the non-football injury list with a hamstring ailment, rendering him unavailable for the start of training camp. Head coach Jim Caldwell said Haloti was doing extremely well in his workouts and while he’s going to be out for a while, he’s a pretty fast healer. “I do know one thing, that he’s coming along quickly, and we’ll see what the doctor says”.

The Lions acquired the 31-year-old Ngata from the Baltimore Ravens in March – ostensibly to replace departed star Ndamukong Suh. Although the Lions have made it clear that they still plan on having the veteran lead their backfield come Week 1, it’s fair to wonder if Bell will be impacted by the aftermath of his offseason surgeries.
Now, he’s out for an undetermined amount of time. He did not talk to reporters as he left the field after practice.
The rookie from Stanford twisted an ankle last week while working out with the Lions, but Caldwell said “it shouldn’t be long” before the third-round pick in this year’s draft returns to the field.
