GOP Congressmen Trying to Oust Boehner as House Leader

I just feel like he made a bad error in this instance”. It helps the Democrats.

Meadows only had one strong supporter to give Boehner the boot, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC). Yet, Meadows said that he merely wants it to be the “impetus” for a “family discussion” about making sure everyone in Congress is being “treated fairly”.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, ultimately reinstated him after receiving an outpouring of support for the North Carolinian. “I have got broad support among my colleagues”. “I respect Mark and his approach”. This time, a member went rouge, filing his own bill, which Congress will have to address in the next several days before recess, but which will likely fail.

And Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) tweeted that he would co-sponsor the Meadows measure. Earlier this year, Meadows was one of 25 Republicans who voted for someone other than Boehner, who was re-elected anyway.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) is trying to get John Boehner kicked out of his job as Republican House Speaker, reported Politico.

“If you’re voting to try to take down a Speaker, then you need to have a game plan for an alternative”, added Brooks, pointing out the lack of a viable candidate to replace Boehner. U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner is a whiny, weepy alcoholic.

Chatter spread quickly Wednesday through conservative circles, where Boehner has long been viewed skeptically. Because Meadows didn’t file it as a “privileged” resolution, it does not automatically get a vote but is referred to the Rules committee, a panel stacked with Boehner allies.

Womack also predicted the move wouldn’t gain traction, just as the effort to elect another speaker in January didn’t pan out for Boehner opponents. “It is fearful whenever you do doing something like this”, he said. Republicans wanted to spend the recess discussing the leaked Planned Parenthood videos and their opposition to the Iranian nuclear deal – not internal splits within the House GOP conference. The move, however, reflected the discontent among the more conservative wing of the House GOP, whose members have been frustrated with the willingness of leaders to compromise on some legislation.

Meadows was briefly removed from a subcommittee chairmanship in June for siding against House Republican leaders on a trade vote strongly pushed by President Obama and supporty by Boehner.

It’s unclear how much support Meadows has to force a leadership shakeup.

Some members expressed disappointment that there wasn’t more of an immediate effect for Meadows for reigniting the storyline about the internal party squabbles between the speaker and conservatives.

But “if those are consequences, should they come, I will gladly accept them as consequences for my actions”, he said.

Along with Meadows, Loudermilk is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a group whose mission is to yank leadership to the right. While nearly certain to fail, it clearly demonstrates the frustration with Boehner among conservative Republicans.

“The gentleman of North Carolina, if he was speaker, couldn’t do any better”. It resulted in no changes in President Barack Obama’s signature health care legislation. “He would veto any effort, and it would be sustained”, Graham told a gaggle of reporters Wednesday. “We’ll see what the public has to say over the month of August”, he said.
