How Martin Luther King Jr. affected Star Trek and Nichelle Nichols’s career

First mentioned in a Reddit AMA and then clarified in a post on Starpower, Uhura will be “among the first non-essential personnel to experience NASA’s newest telescope: SOFIA”.

Ms Nichols revealed her daring mission during an “Ask Me Anything” session on social forum website Reddit. Among the entities NASA monitors through this, the agency lists star birth and death; formation of new solar systems; planets, comets, and asteroids in our solar system (including recent Pluto work); and black holes at the center of galaxies.

She said: “SOFIA does not, sadly, fly into space”.

The modified Boeing 747 will fly high in the air to capture some of the best views of the universe with its built-in 2.5m telescope as part of an 80/20 partnership between NASA and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). “It’s an wonderful experience, you get a totally different perspective than from earth”.”Dr. Martin Luther King, quite some time after I’d first met him, approached me and said something along the lines of ‘Nichelle, whether you like it or not, you have become an symbol”. I was on a similar flight, the first airborn observatory, back in 1977.

She added, “SOFIA is actually a second generation Airport Observatory”.

“I would love to share this event with my fans through live sharing here on StarPower, a special for my VIP fans supporting the great causes that help make these kinds of historical events happen”. Surprisingly, this is not the first time Nichols has been aboard a space telescope. If you’re wondering what the role she nearly left for was, she’s not saying. She is, however, into the idea of a Star Trek musical. “I can’t imagine being completely OK with the Star Trek story without Gene [Roddenberry, original Star Trek producer], however”.
