Android VP Hints at Nutella as the Name of Android N

Google’s senior vice president for Android, Chrome OS, and Google OS Hiroshi Lockheimer posted the following message on Twitter, complete with a teaser image. Apps built to target Android N can be distributed as staged rollouts and through any of the Play Store release channels including: alpha, beta, and production. However, there are some possible options, and a Google Android VP has been heavily hinting that the moniker could actually be Nutella. In the past, Google used to announce the new iteration first before releasing developer previews.

Developer Preview 4 includes the final APIs for the upcoming Android N platform.

The developer preview is available for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, the Pixel C, General Mobile 4G, and the Sony Xperia Z3. Even more so, since Google has a record of adopting names like Android KitKat, Marshmallow, Jelly Bean, and Ice cream Sandwich in the past, we believe that these further increase chances for the Android N to be dubbed as “Nutella”.

As new updates roll out for Android Studio, you should see minor improvements in the new project wizards and AVD manager as we add enhanced support for API 24. We’re guessing that’s not going to be the final “N” name.

Later this year Google will fully release Android N with tons of new features.

As showcase products, it seems that the three (there are two rumored Nexus phones) products will be unveiled at one launch event, most likely in September. Both will work at the same time.

We are pretty sure that Google will make a good decision and it will bring a “sweet” name that will please us. You’ve probably enjoyed the cocoa spread a couple of times in your lifetime.
