Ichiro Matches Rose With 4256 Hits in Japan, Big Leagues

The Padres dropped the first two games of this home series against the Marlins, so today’s series finale will be about trying to avoid a sweep and salvage a win in the three-game set.

“Overall, my fastball was fine”.

Now the naysayers of course will say that this is an all an act from Bonds, an attempt to get in good with the media.

“That was hard for me to understand how he was out of the base line when all of his marks were inside the 45-foot box they want you to run in”, he said.

Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is nearing an interesting milestone.

With two hits Wednesday, Ichiro Suzuki raised his career total in the Japanese and North American major leagues to 4,257, passing Pete Rose’s record Major League Baseball total.

Rose doesn’t think the 1,278 hits Suzuki accumulated in Japan before signing with the Seattle Mariners in 2001 should count the same as the 2,978 he has in the majors.

The Marlins, who scored their most runs this season, seized control with a seven-run third, sending 12 batters to the plate in chasing Rea.

Christian Yelich followed with a line-drive single, and after Rea struck out Marcell Ozuna, Bour beat the Padres’ shift for a second straight at-bat with an opposite-field single to left to put runners at the corners with one out. That let Justin Bour score and extended the inning. He tied his season high with eight strikeouts.

“The Cubs will find a way to screw it up I think”, Rose said on FOX Sports’ “Outkick the Show” with Clay Travis on Tuesday. “But to have Ichy to play, and have him as a leadoff guy, and hopefully spark us”. I thought Rosales pivoted before he caught the ball. That man: Marlins hitting coach Barry Bonds.

Fernando Rodney worked a scoreless 9th to earn the save but did give up Ichiro’s (historic?) hit. It was also San Diego’s first series finale win at home this season. This will be his first career appearance against the Padres.

Matt Kemp homered in the third, drawing the Padres to 8-2.

Miami arrived in San Diego after being shut out by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Offensively, the Padres recorded 13 hits on the day and were carried by Melvin Upton Jr. and Derek Norris.

“We’re building a little momentum”, said Marlins manager Don Mattingly after Tuesday night’s 5-2 victory over the Padres. Realmuto singled home the final run in the seventh.
