Yemen pro-government troops say have taken key base in south

Al-Anad, once the site of US intelligence operations against Al Qaeda’s powerful Yemeni affiliate, is the main rebel encampment in the country’s south.
“The next step for the popular resistance and army forces after liberating Aden is the clearing of the provinces of Abyan and Lahj”, a commander in the anti-Houthi forces told Reuters.
The bottom has been underneath siege for weeks by the Southern Resistance, an alliance of southern teams together with secessionists looking for an unbiased south Yemen.
Since last month, they have received military supplies shipped by sea to Aden, including new heavy and medium weapons and ammunition such as tanks, artillery, missiles and armored vehicles in shipments from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Witnesses stated they noticed dozens of latest armored automobiles heading in two separate columns within the morning towards al-Anad.
This story has been corrected to reflect that the Defense Ministry’s statement was issued from Aden, Yemen, not from Saudi Arabia. The United States was heavily involved in anti-militant operations until the Houthi revolt forced its personnel to leave.
Pro-government forces in Yemen have recaptured an airbase in a battle with Houthi rebels, media reported on Tuesday.
