Your first look at Jude Law as ‘The Young Pope’
MANILA, Philippines – In the upcoming Sky Original series The Young Pope, the pontiff is played by Jude Law, and from the casting alone, things might get interesting. Inside the Vatican, the mysterious and contradictory Pius XIII is at once shrewd and naïve, old-fashioned and very modern, doubtful and resolute, ironic, pedantic, hurt and ruthless. He is the youngest and first American Pope in history.

The short teaser shows the pope at prayer everywhere from a chapel to the bottom of a swimming pool, while he is also seen reclining in a chair smoking – another subtle nudge towards the new pope’s darker character.
The series promises to be dark, dramatic and intriguing, and will follow Pius XIII as he tries to walk the long path of human loneliness to find a God for mankind.
The first trailer for Jude Law’s new TV series, starring him as the first USA pope, has been released and he looks set to shake-up the Catholic Church. In addition to Law, The Young Pope has an worldwide cast that includes Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cecile de France, Javier Camara, Ludivine Sagnier, Tony Bertorelli, and James Cromwell. Sorrentino co-wrote the series with his frequent partner Umberto Contrarello, along with Tony Grisoni and Stefano Rulli.
