Woman Found Dead In Minnesota Was Estranged Wife Of UCLA Shooter

Officials have not identified the female victim or whether she was still married to Sarkar at the time of the shootings.

Johnson said the two didn’t get a divorce because Hasti couldn’t afford one.

A Los Angeles police media relations representative said she had no information about the warrant.

Sarkar also left behind a “kill list” that included the name of a UCLA professor who wasn’t on campus Wednesday.

Mrs Klug released a statement saying: “Bill was so much more than my soul mate”.

She asks that her family’s privacy be respected so they can mourn.

The university was shut down for the day but reopened on Thursday and a vigil was planned later in the evening to honor Klug.

Sarkar, a former UCLA doctoral student, believed Klug had stolen his computer code, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

Hasti’s name was on a “kill list” that Mainak Sarkar had written. Officials believe he lived in Minnesota after earning his doctorate. Gordy Aune Jr, the neighborhood watch commander, said that the father daughter kept to themselves. He described them as quiet.

The department says they had been separated for some time though, and living at different places. “Thank you for being my mentor”. But perhaps, it got all dashed by ego battles between Sarkar and Klug, with the 39-year-old Klug perhaps crushing Sarkar’s ideas and potential, delaying his graduation. It’s titled, “Coupled Cardiac Electrophysiology and Contraction using Finite Element”.

Residents said Sarkar kept to himself. “In the search of Sarkar’s residence in Minneapolis, a list was located”, Beck said.

The investigation unfolded rapidly after Sarkar left a note in the office where he killed professor Bill Klug.

At the scene, detectives found a note, asking someone to check on his cat, named “Kitty”.

Sarkar has at least two St. Paul addresses showing up in his records, as well as a reference to the Brooklyn Park address where Hasti was found. Minnesota authorities think she’d been dead several days, Hayes said. “But it’s also a symbolic show of our solidarity”, one student said. That faculty member was off-campus Wednesday and was unharmed, the police chief said. Sarkar did not kill a third person or cause carnage on campus. “He is a very sick person”, Sarkar wrote.

It ends with: “Your enemy is your enemy”.

“There are so many people here who felt the loss for the family and for the students who know him”, said student Stephen Ang. Be careful about whom you trust. Early indications are that the shooting occurred prior to the UCLA incident, police said. Ashley Hasti, wife of the alleged shooter, Mainak Sarkar, was found dead in her Brooklyn Park, Minn., apartment.

With a wall’s worth of academic degrees from top universities and a new wife in his chosen country, Mainak Sarkar entered mid-life with a foundation of success. Both Klug and the dead woman were on the list, as well as a second UCLA professor.

Beck said investigators believe Sarkar killed his wife before driving to Los Angeles to continue his rampage, armed with two semi-automatic pistols and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Thursday that the deadly shooting at UCLA was a reminder of how endemic gun violence had become in the United States, where readily-available firearms claim around 30,000 lives each year.
