Security Firm Moved Mateen After Al Qaeda Boast, But Didn’t Fire Him

A documentary clip shows Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen talking cynically about people who made money off the BP oil spill.

At the time, Mateen was working for the global security firm G4S.

Six years later, Mateen, 29, orchestrated the deadliest mass shooting in USA history, leaving 49 innocent people dead and 53 wounded at a gay nightclub.

A series of statements posted on the company’s website said G4S was “shocked and saddened” by the attack in Orlando.

Sky News in the United Kingdom was first to report Mateen’s small role in the documentary. The FBI are speaking to the recipient but have not released any further details about what was said during the phone call.

Those remarks prompted courthouse officials to request Mateen’s immediate removal from the St. Lucie County Courthouse, and to make “the appropriate notifications to inform our federal partners”, including the FBI, according to county Sheriff Ken Mascara.

“Mateen underwent company screening and background checks when he was recruited in 2007 and the check revealed nothing of concern”, a written statement from G4S said.

“There’s no-one really to talk to, like any supervisors”, he says.
