Chris Davis, Caleb Joseph homer as Orioles beat A’s 9

Jesse Chavez continued to fade in his reliability on the mound, allowing three runs in the first inning that would be an unsurmountable obstacle for the slumping Oakland offense in an eventual 9-2 defeat to the Orioles.

The A’s will look to get back into the win column after losing their AL-high sixtieth game Monday night, and rookie Chris Bassitt (0-4, 3.10) will continue his quest for his first win as an Athletic.

Wilson lost his only major league start when he allowed two runs in six innings against Chicago on May 28.

He gave up just two runs over six innings in his first major league start back in May and delivered another solid performance last night before heading back to Norfolk.

Chavez fell to 5-11 on the season, and has not been sharp in his last handful of starts. “Still a little tender but about where we thought he’d be, ” Showalter said…. If all goes well, he is likely to be slated to pitch Friday.

Tillman suffered the injury Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves when he rolled his ankle attempting to cover first base in the ninth inning. Prospect RHP Parker Bridwell was placed on the DL Sunday with elbow tendinitis and will soon seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Florida.

To make room for Crisp on the roster, the A’s despatched outfielder Jake Smolinski to Triple-A Nashville. The club reinstated switch-pitcher Pat Venditte from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Nashville.

Athletics: LHP Sean Doolittle will throw a simulated game Tuesday to test his strained shoulder….

Dan Otero was sent down as Arnold Leon was called up in a changing of the guard in the bullpen.

He may have trouble getting much support Tuesday since Baltimore starter Miguel Gonzalez (9-7, 4.28) has posted a 3.04 ERA in winning four straight road starts for the first time. He has appeared in five games for Baltimore, with the one start, posting has a 2.12 ERA.
