The city of Joliet Mosquito Abatement Program targets all the manholes, catch basins, and inlets to treat with an organic certified extended-release tablet to eradicate these mosquitos.
About: West Nile emerged on the scene in the U.S.in 1999 and provoked interest in monitoring the mosquito population in the region. In addition to tracking cases of human illnesses caused by West Nile Virus, KDHE assesses the potential for West Nile virus by conducting limited mosquito surveillance, including laboratory testing.
The South Dakota Department of Health says the state’s first West Nile virus detection this season is a mosquito pool in Brown County.
The potentially deadly West Nile Virus has been found in Grand Forks. “Lyme disease isn’t going away.”Transmission: It is transmitted through the bites of black-legged ticks and is usually spotted after the appearance of the classic bull’s-eye rash.Symptoms and treatment: The symptoms of the disease in its early stage include headache, fever, chills and aches, but later stages of the disease can have harsher symptoms that affect other parts of the body.Treatments usually include a course of oral antibiotics”. Residents can also reduce their risk by wearing long sleeve shirts and long trousers, preferably in light colors and wearing insect repellent. More precisely, light-colored clothing will reduce the risk of getting bitten. Approved repellents are those that contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Make sure you have good screens on your windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. Those are the times when the mosquitoes that transmit WNV are most active. Check for, and fix, any tears in residential screens, including porches and patios. It is important to remain vigilant by taking practical steps to eliminate standing water around the home.

In addition to this, people have to discard any water-holding containers, drums, buckets and old tires because they are like a magnet for the disease-carrying insects.
