The video from the Rockin’ 1,000 went live on Thursday and has racked up over 11 million views since being uploaded.

It all began with one passionate Italian, Fabio Zaffagnini’s desire to see the band play in his country.

After a year’s planning, 1,000 fans met up in a park in the city on July 26 to thrash out the song on drums, guitars and microphones, belting out the hit tune together as the sun set.

Grohl himself saw it and posted the video to the Foo Fighter’s Facebook and Twitter page with a simple “Ci vediamo a presto, Cesena … xxx Davide” – meaning “See you soon, Cesena … xxx David”. My kids. I can only hope I have my own little Haim to jam with someday.

“So we ask you, the Foo Fighters, to come and play for us here in Cesena”, he said. Thank you very much.

Organizers sorted through thousands of videos to determine who would make the final cut of 350 guitarists, 250 singers, 250 drummers and 150 bassists. “I love you. Ciao”.

Along with those few words in Italian, the frontman of Foo Fighters shared a video, in which he spoke in Italian to those who wowed him with that stunning performance of “Learn to Fly”.
