Dental care grants go to 12 Illinois health centers

The money was part of a $156 million investment in 420 health centers in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, the health department said.

“Health centers are cornerstones of the communities they serve”, HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell said in a news release.

Oral health problems can be a sign of illness elsewhere in the body.

The health centers are created to care for an underserved population with fees adjusted based on the ability to pay.
