Asus Chromebook Flip First To Land Android Apps
As you can guess, the developer channel is meant for developers, so ordinary users will have to dig into the “About Chrome OS” part of the Settings menu (and reboot their computers) to access the store. Well, at least those sporting ASUS Flip Chromebooks, as that seems to be the first destination for added support for apps found through Google’s Play Store.

The Asus Chromebook Flip and the Acer R11 Chromebook are both available for purchase here in Australia, though they’re still fairly hard to get a hold of.
Next, you have to change the “channel” for your particular version of Chrome OS. Fast forward less than a month, and the ASUS Flip becomes the first Chromebook to enable the feature.
Keep in mind, this update applies only to Asus Flip Chromebooks in the developer channel. Making for a pretty great experience.
The first device to take full advantage of this new feature is the ASUS Chromebook Flip. If so, do you have the Play Store yet?
Jide announced its second generation of Remix OS devices earlier this week that run a customised version of Android natively and therefore offer a lot more instant compatibility.
Lucky owners of the ASUS Chromebook Flip will get to try Android apps ahead of anyone else, though Google has promised support is coming to a number of laptops.
“With expanded app availability, new use cases and improved workflows can be achieved for all Chromebook users, whether for personal use, for work or for education”, Google software engineers Dylan Reid and Elijah Taylor previously explained.

Even though Chrome OS is created to utilise cloud storage, the Chromebook Flip does come with a small amount of internal storage. We should be seeing it land on numerous other Chromebooks around September (that’s when Chrome 53 is slated to land on the stable channel).
