BlackBerry Passport ‘Silver Edition’ leaks out ahead of official debut

Revealing a new edition of the BlackBerry Passport this morning, BlackBerry has once again proven themselves a company that – believe it or not – isn’t going anywhere fast.

Since there are not too many details spilled by the company and no information has been given as to where it will be available, its similarity to AT&T’s Passport version does not mean the device will appear in the US. The device might as well turn out to be an aluminum version of BlackBerry Passport.

I’m highly doubtful if you already own the original Passport. It will be sold for $539.99 in the U.S. market at launch, according to PCP. This could indicate that the handset will be around anytime soon. Essentially both the BlackBerry Passport and the Passport Silver Edition handsets are more or less the same, with some design differences.

The new OS features BlackBerry Assistant, which can be used with voice and text commands to help you manage email, contacts, your calendar, and more; and BlackBerry Blend, which lets you transfer files from the phone to your PC and vice versa. The “Silver Edition” is the same device that fans has named “Dallas” it will sport the same 4.5-inch display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that was in the original Passport. A few days ago, the first pictures of the BlackBerry “Venice” were leaked online. T-Mobile is selling the device at a $70 discount to BlackBerry’s store price – carriers are probably still in love with the firm. The phone will also be equipped with a 13 MP primary camera, similar to its name-sake predecessor. Last month, Android Community reported that BlackBerry acquired two Android-related domains, AndroidSecured.com and AndroidSecured.net, as of July 7. CEO John Chen has once said that BlackBerry is iconic in the smartphone space and it doesn’t just feel right for the firm to stop making smartphones.
