Cavs’ Smith to opt for free agency
“Cleveland Cavaliers sharpshooter J.R. Smith will allow his player option deadline of June 16 to pass in order to become a unrestricted free agent this summer, league sources informed cleveland.com”, wrote Chris Haynes. His deadline to opt in is June 16, but his contract won’t be guaranteed until September 17. But with the salary cap rising next season, Smith chose to test his value on the open market while being open to staying in Cleveland.
