Roy Hodgson delighted with England subs

Wales are second in the group, a point behind England and level with Slovakia, ahead of their third game against Russian Federation in Toulouse on Monday.

“England did it. They conceded in the last minute against Russian Federation and showed good courage to get back in the second game – and we have to do the same”.

England coach Roy Hodgson, basking in a 2-1 victory over Wales on Thursday clinched by goals from two substitutes, said fringe players would be a major factor at Euro 2016. “We have to put it to bed as quickly as we can to get ready for Russia”, Coleman said.

“It was gut-wrenching for the players and our supporters”, said Coleman of Sturridge’s victor in the 92nd minute of the match.

“We’ve got one game left which we need to play and finish the job off”.

Hodgson’s choice and timing of substitutions was criticized against Russian Federation on Saturday – England conceded a late goal to tie it at 1-1 – but he got it right at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

This is the moment a Coventry bar celebrated Jamie Vardy’s crucial equaliser for England against Wales at Euro 2016. We got incredible support, the Welsh got incredible support and and they saw an unbelievably exciting game. We moved the ball and made Wales work hard.

“A lot of us were calling for them but it’s easier said than done when you are the manager”.

“I think the disappointment is because we won the first one and are 1-0 up in the second one at half-time”. By the end of the first half, Sterling was being jeered by England fans for his sloppy play and was substituted at halftime along with the equally ineffective Harry Kane. We all trust that whoever is playing will do a good job.

“It’s going to be a feature of the tournament”, he told a news conference, referring to changes made during a match. “Each team has 23 players, in those 23, there’ll be a lot of players who feel hard done by when not selected and feel maybe they should’ve been selected”, said Hodgson. Their effort and courage was fantastic.

“I can’t say I’ve felt as disappointed too many times in my career as I did when that goal went in”.

“It is only one more game in the group, so no-one wants to get too excited but the atmosphere is unbelievable and the togetherness between the two countries here is unbelievable”. He worked very hard against Russian Federation and has had a long season, so it was great we had somebody like Jamie Vardy to step into his shoes.

‘Harry was looking a bit exhausted, I thought, in the course of the first half.

Kane has started both of England’s games so far in the tournament, but has failed to make the kind of impact he would have hoped for after claiming the Premier League’s Golden Boot this season with 25 goals.
