The singer, born Attrell Cordes, died from kidney disease at his home in New Jersey.

A representative for Cordes, who suffered from complications of diabetes, confirmed his death in an unnamed New Jersey hospital to the magazine.

P.M. Dawn, which they said was an “abbreviation of the idea that in the darkest hour comes the light”, was formed by Cordes and his brother Jarrett and became a prominent act in the 1990s.

Best known for hit singles like Set Adrift on Memory Bliss, I’d Die Without You and Looking Through Patient Eyes, P.M. Dawn was considered unique among hip-hop bands for its flower-power style lyrics and philosophical introspection.

The outlet adds that Cordes was suffering from diabetes as well. Prince Be continued to perform under the P.M. Dawn name with cousin Doc G. In November of 2015, Doc G shared a new single, “Stripe & Goose (99 Bottles)”, as an iTunes exclusive.

“Prince Be Rest In Peace Forever More”, it said.

On Twitter, fans of P.M. Dawn mourned Cordes. He had a stroke in 2005 and also suffered from diabetes.
