Orlando gunman, wife exchanged texts during rampage

The wife of Omar Mateen, the shooter in Sunday’s deadly massacre at an Orlando gay bar and who is now being investigated for possible criminal charges, lived for a short time in Oak Lawn, news reports said.

Law enforcement officials say Noor Salam, the shooter’s wife, allegedly went with her husband to buy ammunition prior to the attack.

He also allegedly posted: “The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west” and “In the next few days you will see attacks from the Islamic state in the U.S.”.

Others were for unspecified rules violations, according to the records.

“She definitely is, I guess you would say, a person of interest right now and appears to be cooperating and can provide us with some important information”, he said.

Mateen and Salman had been married since 2011.

Orlando gunman Omar Mateen was filmed by a documentarian using a hidden camera for an award-winning film about the BP oil spill while he was working as a security guard. The feds won’t confirm if Mateen was the caller, but News 13’s managing editor did confirm the phone number the call came from matched Mateen’s.

“I answered the phone as I always do: ‘News 13, this is Matt.’ And on the other end, I heard, ‘Do you know about the shooting?'” Gentili said. She also told investigators that in the weeks before the attack, Mateen spent thousands of dollars, including for the guns used in the attack.

Salman is alleged to have told FBI investigators that Mateen lied about where he was going last Saturday night.

Dina McHugh recalled Mateen taunting her about being a lesbian when they were in middle school, before she was even aware of her own sexual orientation.

In his letter to Zuckerberg, Johnson said Mateen apparently posted sometime during the attack that he was pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group’s leader, and “America and Russian Federation stop bombing the Islamic state”.

The Orlando attacks left 49 dead and 53 injured in what is the worst mass shooting in US history, and the deadliest terrorist attack on USA soil since September 11.

He called a friend to tell him goodbye, two law enforcement officials said.

Three people identifying themselves as Federal Bureau of Investigation agents visited Salman’s childhood home in Rodeo on Tuesday and spoke with her mother, said Jessie Rojas, a next-door neighbor.

Mateen’s last-minute declaration of allegiance makes the attack less ISIS-sponsored and more ISIS-inspired, which highlights the danger of so-called “lone wolf” terrorists, especially as military operations wrest control of ISIS territory in Iraq and Syria. “But from everything that has occurred and connecting the pieces to what I knew myself from my time and experience, I would not be surprised”. The FBI said it is still gathering evidence at the Pulse and analyzing cellphone location data to piece together Mateen’s activities leading up to the massacre, while also interviewing people who had any dealings with him.
